UPCYCLED TOTBAGS

I began making these bags with the purpose of better developing my skills. The name comes from my value in passion and love for what you do. Throughout this line of upcycled cargo pant tote bags I have practiced discipline, patience, and balance as I teach myself how to sew.

THE ASK

Create a line of up cycled bags from old clothes. With each of these bags I tasked myself with the challenge of making the next one different from the last. It had to be different in not only construction, but material and color as well.

THE PROCESS

The process was really fun and creative. First, I chose a pair of sturdy denim jeans that I didn’t wear anymore. I started by cutting the legs off and using that fabric as the main body of the tote. Then, I cut out a rectangular shape for the front and back panels and saved the waistband and pockets to add extra details.

After cutting all the pieces, I pinned them together and sewed the sides and bottom to form the bag. I used the waistband to create handles, but belts or other strong fabric would work too. I also added one of the back pockets to the front of the tote as an outer pocket. Once everything was sewn together, I checked for any loose threads and reinforced the seams.
